BIO
Dr. Alicia C. Stapp is an Associate Professor of Health and Physical Education and currently serves as Assistant Chair for the Department of Teacher Education. Dr. Stapp is also the Co- creator of the Growing Healthy Minds, Bodies, and Communities Curriculum (growinghealthymbc.com). Dr. Stapp received her Doctorate of Education with a concentration in Instructional Leadership and a minor in Curriculum Development from Nova Southeastern University. Prior to higher education, Dr. Stapp taught in the Florida public school system for almost 12 years. Dr. Stapp’s research centers on the impact and role of wellness and physical activity within the preK-8 classroom and school setting through the lens of teaching, learning, and community engagement. Fundamental to her teaching, scholarship, and service in education is how a multi and trans-disciplinary curriculum, grounded in wellness and physical activity integration can help shape the current trajectory of childhood obesity and sedentary behaviors among children and adolescents. She also aims to examine ways to impact educational programs and policy surrounding curriculum, teacher wellness, student, parent, and community engagement in education, and academic achievement in the preK-8 setting.
WHY CLI?
My interest in the Character of Leaders Initiative evolves from a deep-rooted commitment to cultivating intellectual virtues that inspire critical, courageous, and curious thinkers. By intentionally integrating these traits into instruction, I aim to empower future educators to foster meaningful, reflective learning environments where students think deeply, challenge assumptions, and grow into thoughtful contributors of society and the education profession.
